Islamabad High Court (IHC) Monday suspended the sentence of PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Thoshakhana case.
A two-judge bench consisting of IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Miangul Aurangzeb conducted the hearing on appeals of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi against their conviction and sentencing in the Toshakhana case.
The court pronounced its ruling after the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) lawyer said the Bureau had no objection to the suspension of the sentence. Barrister Ali Zafar argued on behalf of Imran Khan.
IHC also ordered the authorities concerned to release Iman Khan and Bushra Bibi from prison in the case.
Chief Justice Aamer Farooq remarked that the appeals against the punishment would be taken up after the Eid holidays.
It is pertinent to note that on January 31, the founder of PTI and former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi were sentenced to 14 years in prison with hard labor by a trial court in the Tosha Khana reference
Judge Mohammad Basheer of Accountability Court Islamabad, while pronouncing the Toshakhana reference in Adiala Jail, also disqualified Imran Khan and his wife from holding any public office for 10 years.
