RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has imposed a ban on all visitations at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, where Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan is currently incarcerated, local media reported Monday.
According to Geo News, jail authorities have cited security concerns as the reason for this restriction.
The restriction, effective until October 18, applies not only to Khan but to all inmates in Adiala Jail. Security agencies recently expanded investigations, resulting in the arrest of six additional jail staff members accused of aiding the PTI founder.
Among the detained staff are three women, including a sweeper, two lady wardens, and three CCTV monitoring staff.
Reports indicate that some female staff members facilitated message exchanges between Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, and him. The detained staff’s mobile phones have been confiscated for further investigation.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Home Department has issued a letter to Rawalpindi’s district administration and jail authorities, urging enhanced security protocols. The letter cites a recent threat alert from the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on October 6, calling for increased security and preventive measures to mitigate potential risks.
