Former Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim hinted his return to the international cricket, saying that nobody knew when Pakistan might need an individual.
He is currently playing for Abu Dhabi’s Islamabad Night Riders in the UAE T20 league.
“I made my decision with full conviction but you never know when Pakistan may need you,” said Imad Wasim while talking to the reporters on Thursday.
The former all-rounder for Pakistan talked candidly about quitting international cricket.
The 35-year-old made the comments after choosing to play in T20 franchise leagues across the globe after bidding farewell in November of last year.
Wasim acknowledged that his choice was correct, but he also said he was prepared to go back if Pakistan needed him.
He underlined that in order for Pakistan to advance, there must be clarity in their cricketing strategies.
“I want to clarify not as a captain but as a senior player about the direction the team wants to take, where I want to play or where a group of senior players want to take it,” he said.
He further said, “I want Pakistan to play cricket correctly and with the right blend. There’s no regret in retirement,”.
Imad said he was genuinely happy that he was still playing cricket worldwide.
It’s worth mentioning that Imad Wasim last represented Pakistan in the T20 series against New Zealand in 2023, surprising many with his abrupt retirement. He initiated his international career against Zimbabwe in May 2015, representing Pakistan in 55 ODIs and 66 T20Is.
Imad secured 109 wickets and scored 1,472 runs in his international career. Wasim remained a pivotal member of the Pakistani team in recent years, contributing to their Champions Trophy triumph in 2017. He also participated in the T20 World Cups of 2016, 2019, and 2021.
