Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, have approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) with petitions requesting the suspension of their sentences in the 190 million-pound reference. These petitions were filed two months after the verdict was delivered.
The petitions, submitted by Barrister Salman Safdar, argue that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) abused its authority with malicious intent and that the court hastily rendered a verdict based on an incomplete investigation.
The petitioners contend that NAB failed to obtain the original text of the agreement from the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA), raising concerns about the transparency and fairness of the investigation. Furthermore, they pointed out that NCA officials were not included in the inquiry process.
The pleas argue that the prosecution did not present sufficient evidence, leading to a flawed judgment. As a result, Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi have requested the IHC to suspend the sentence issued on January 17 and grant them bail until the main appeal is decided.
In the petitions, they assured the court that both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi would attend all hearings following the suspension of their sentence.
