ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday ordered the provision of adequate security to former Prime Minister Imran Khan after fully determining the threats posed to him.
The IHC Chief Justice issued a written decision on Imran Khan’s request for security, stating that he should be given security as per the threats he is facing. The court also directed the government to place the matter of threats and provision of security to Imran Khan before the Threats Assessment Committee.
The verdict also highlights that the decision of the Threat Assessment Committee from last year is likely to be considered worthless. The IHC maintains that Imran Khan, as a former prime minister, is eligible for security and there is no doubt over it, adding that the assassination attempt on him must be taken into consideration. The IHC further stated that matters regarding Imran Khan’s security need to be reassessed.
The ruling comes as a significant relief to Imran Khan, who was injured in an assassination attempt on November 3 in Wazirabad during the course of his long march. Some Thirteen other PTI workers were injured while one Moazzam had lost his life.
