ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Sunday approved former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s pre-arrest bail in a contempt case lodged against him for his controversial remarks against an Islamabad judge.
Through his attorney Dr. Babar Awan, the former prime minister applied for bail before being taken into custody earlier in the day in Islamabad High Court.
Imran Khan was given pre-arrest temporary bail by IHC Judge Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani until October 7 in exchange for Rs10,000 in surety bonds.
He has been ordered to show up in front of the appropriate court.
The former prime minister in his plea stated that the case against him has been registered on a ‘political basis’ and alleged that police are acting as tool of the government.
Khan moved to the IHC for pre-arrest bail after Senior Civil Judge Rana Mujahid Rahim issued warrants against the former PM, directing Margalla Police Station SHO to implement the orders.
In the complaint filed on August 20 due to the PTI chief’s comments against Additional District and Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry, the magistrate issued arrest warrants against him.
Four PPC sections—506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), 504 (intentional insult with purpose to incite breach of peace), 189 (threat to injure public servant), and 188—are included in the FIR (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant).
