ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday dismissed a contempt plea against Pakistan People’s Party’s senior leader Aitzaz Ahsan.
Aitzaz Ahsan was accused of contempt last week by PML-N leader Captain retired Safdar Awan for his recent comments on the acquittals of the Sharif family in several trials.
According to the lawsuit, the PPP leader assailed the judiciary when successive courts exonerated the Sharif family.
The petitioner has begged the court to file a contempt of court action against a prominent lawyer and veteran politician and punish him in accordance with the law.
The PPP leader criticized the court even before the publication of full rulings in the acquittals of the Sharif family in several matters, according to Captain Retired Safdar’s attorney at the beginning of the hearing.
IHC Chief Justice Justice Athar Minallah stated that this court is renowned for its rulings and does not wish to waste time on unimportant matters.
When the applicant’s attorney cited Rana Shamim, a former top judge of the GB court, the court expressed its resentment.
Later, the court rejected the contempt plea against Aitzaz Ahsan.
