KARACHI: Inspector General of Police Sindh Rifat Mukhtar has suspended 19 police officers for their involvement in smuggling Iranian oil and non-custom paid vehicles in the province.
Those suspended include inspectors, sub-inspectors, assistant sub-inspectors, head constables and constables. The cops were suspended for involvement in smuggling hail from Kashmore, Shikarpur, Khairpur, Sukkur and Jacobaad districts of Sindh province.
Earlier, a bid to smuggle 31,000 litres of Iranian diesel was foiled by Karachi police officials by seizing a tanker near Northern By-pass.
Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) East had told the media that a tanker was stopped at Northern By-pass on a tip-off. The illegal consignment was seized on a truck containing 31,000 litres of Iranian diesel which were being smuggled to Karachi.
