ISLAMABAD: Employees of the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) and All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union protested the proposed privatisation of the power distribution companies, and blocked one side of the road in front of the National Press Club.
The participants of the rally carrying national flags and banners in support of their demands chanted slogans for reversal of proposed privatization plan of basic need providing state organizations.
Talking to M.M News, Javed Baloch, the regional chairman of the CBA union, said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) was against the privatization of government entities therefore it should reconsider its decision.
“IESCO has been earning a profit, as there are a 100 percent recovery rate and only single-digit line losses, so it would not be a wise decision to privatise it,” Javed Baloch added.
He further said that the government should clearly announce that it has dropped all plans for privatisation. “Otherwise, we will have no option but to intensify the protest. Employees from all over the country will participate in the sit-in,” he warned.
