Historic batting performance helped South Africa built a highest-ever total of 428 runs in their first match against Sri Lanka in the World Cup at Delhi stadium on Saturday.
Quinton de Kock took a strong start for his side with a fiery 100 off 84 balls after his opening partner Babuma dismissed for 8. Rassie van der Dussen also displayed magic with bat by smacking 108 runs.
However, a classy performance was showed by Aiden Markram, who smashed the fastest-ever world cup hundred off 49 balls. With the three hundreds in an innings, South Africa have equaled their own record of most centuries in a World Cup match.
Earlier, Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bowl first against South Africa.
South Africa and Sri Lanka are keen to make a fast start at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup and qualify for the knockout stage of the event.

South Africa showed some decent signs of form with a narrow loss to New Zealand in a high scoring contest during their warm-up matches for the World Cup. On the other hand, Sri Lanka’s batters appeared in good touch in their defeat against Afghanistan.
The absence of spinner Wanindu Hasaranga is sure to be felt by Sri Lanka and they will be hoping the likes of youngsters Dunith Wellalage and Matheesha Pathirana can step up during the tournament.
Both teams have strong batting line-ups and another high scoring match could be on the cards in Delhi.
