Rishad Hossain and Jaker Ali has made a valiant effort to bring Bangladesh to a respectable total of 236 in their Champions Trophy group match against New Zealand in Rawalpindi.
Earlier, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto scored a half-century after Bangladesh missed the opportunity to capitalize on a strong start.
Following their initial success, Bangladesh began losing wickets at regular intervals and found themselves at 118/5 in 26.1 overs, with Shanto still at the crease. New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra celebrated taking the catch to dismiss Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim, off Michael Bracewell’s bowling.
Shanto finally received substantial support from middle-order batter Jaker Ali, who scored a valiant century in Bangladesh’s opening campaign match against India in Dubai. Together, they added 45 crucial runs for the sixth wicket before Shanto was dismissed by Will O’Rourke in the 38th over.
Bracewell was New Zealand’s standout bowler, taking four wickets for just 26 runs in his 10 overs, followed by O’Rourke with two wickets, while Matt Henry and Kyle Jamieson each took one wicket.
