KARACHI: The recent spell of monsoon rains in various parts of Sindh and Balochistan has increased the water level in Hub Dam to 328 feet, sources informed.
According to Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) sources, the water level in Hub Dam was at 312 feet before the onset of rains, but due to recent rains, the water level in Hub Dam has now crossed 320 feet.
The KWSB sources informed that more than 8 feet of water has come in a few days so far and this water storage is enough for Karachi till the year 2022.
The increasing water level in the dam will improve the water supply in various districts of the metropolis, which receives water supply from the Hub reservoir.
Karachi gets 100-million gallon water daily from Hub Dam. Owing to the low water supply from the dam, many areas in the West and Central districts of Karachi face acute water shortage.
The Hub Dam, located 56 km from Karachi with a total capacity of 339 feet, is extended to 24,300 acres with a gross storage capacity of 8,57,000 acre-feet water.
