KARACHI: Some heavy rainfall is coming to Karachi, folks, as Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz announced on Monday that Karachi, the major port city, is expected to experience heavy rainfall from August 27 to August 31.
In a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, Sarfaraz indicated that the city could see between 150mm to 200mm of rain during this period, according to an official statement from the Sindh CM House.
Moreover, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has reported that a well-marked low-pressure area over central India has intensified into a depression over Madhya Pradesh. This system is anticipated to move west-southwestward, potentially reaching eastern Sindh on the night of August 26.
As a result, strong monsoon currents are likely to impact Sindh.
The Met Office also forecasted rain, wind, and thunderstorms with scattered heavy to very heavy and isolated intense rainfall across several districts, including Tharparkar, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Matiari, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Jamshoro, Dadu, Kambar Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, and Larkana from August 26 through August 31, with occasional breaks.
Specific areas such as Thatta, Sujawal, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, and Shaheed Benazirabad are expected to receive between 250mm to 300mm of rain, while Badin, Tando Mohammad Khan, Tharparkar, and Umerkot could see up to 500mm. Other districts may experience rainfall ranging from 70mm to 100mm.
