Pakistani ministers receive a monthly salary of Rs 200,000, while National Assembly lawmakers earn Rs 156,000 each month.
These details about salaries, perks, and allowances for federal ministers were disclosed by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar during a Senate session. Tarar noted that federal ministers do not have official vehicles and receive Rs 8,000 per month for bills.
While federal ministers have a monthly salary of Rs 200,000, most opt not to take their full salary. Additionally, he mentioned that ministers are allotted a 1500cc car and 400 liters of fuel, but there are no extra official perks.
Earlier this year, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his cabinet chose to forgo their salaries and benefits as part of the government’s austerity measures aimed at cutting unnecessary expenses and promoting fiscal responsibility. This decision reflects the premier’s commitment to prioritizing austerity.
During the past year, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had asked all members of parliament and provincial assemblies to submit their statements of assets and liabilities including those of their spouses and dependents by December 31.
According to ECP, all parliamentarians had to submit their yearly statements of assets and liabilities including similar details of their spouses and dependent children as on the preceding June 30 on Form B for the financial year 2022-2023.
The Commission, on the first day of January each year will publish names of members, who fail to submit the requisite statement of assets and liabilities within the period specified under sub-section (1).
