LAHORE: The Appellate Tribunal issued a written decision to allow Sanam Javed to contest the Senate election.
According to the 11-page judgment written by Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan, Sanam Javed was allowed to contest the Senate elections.
Justice Shahid Hasan wrote in the judgment that no one can be deprived of fundamental rights in the current situation.
The judge wrote that Umar Sarfraz Cheema’s nomination papers were approved while he was in jail. He further said that no one should be discriminated against.
Justice Hasan wrote that the appellant’s husband failed to file the tax returns for 2023, he was arrested on May 9, and due to unavoidable circumstances the tax could not be filed. The returning officer should have taken the circumstances into account, the judge said.
The Tribunal ordered the Returning Officer to include the name of the appellant in the list of candidates while allowing Sanam Javed to contest the Senate elections from Punjab on reserved seats for women.
It should be remembered that PTI activist Sanam Javed was not allowed to participate in the general elections, but the Election Tribunal has allowed Sanam Javed to participate in the Senate elections.
