The Power Division announced a new relief initiative on Friday called the “Bijli Sahulat” package, designed to reduce electricity rates for consumers during the low-demand winter season.
This package introduces a flat rate of Rs26.07 per unit for additional electricity usage above the standard historical average, aiming to make electricity more affordable and to encourage higher consumption in winter.
According to the Power Division’s statement, this relief package will apply to bills from December 2024 to February 2025, providing “desirable” reductions in electricity prices. The plan reflects the government’s commitment to balancing seasonal electricity demand while offering economic benefits to consumers.
Key details of the package include:
- A flat rate of Rs26.07 per unit for any additional electricity demand above the benchmark historical average.
- The new rates apply only to units 25% over the reference benchmark; any further incremental usage beyond 25% will be charged at standard government-notified rates.
- Industrial sector savings range from Rs5.72 to Rs15 per unit, translating to an 18% to 37% reduction in tariffs.
- Commercial consumers will benefit from reduced rates of Rs13.46 to Rs22 per unit.
- The reduced rates are available for domestic, commercial, and industrial consumers from December 2024 through February 2025.
