In Roorkee, Uttarakhand, far-right Hindu groups held protests at Quantum University after a video surfaced showing a female Muslim student praying on campus.
The video, which was recorded without the student’s knowledge, spread rapidly online, sparking outrage from groups such as the Bajrang Dal.
Hundreds of students joined the demonstration, chanting “Jai Sri Ram” in opposition to the presence of Muslim prayers on university grounds. Bajrang Dal, known for its hardline stance, accused the student’s prayer of being part of “Love Jihad,” an alleged religious conversion strategy targeting Hindu women.

Amid this environment, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who secured a third term, has been criticized for speeches that some view as incendiary, describing Muslims as “infiltrators” and making polarizing statements like framing elections as a choice between “Ram Rajya” and “Vote Jihad.” Earlier this year, Amnesty International condemned what it called “punitive demolitions” of Muslim properties, describing them as an intimidation tactic against India’s Muslim minority.
