Rawalpindi: A looming threat of terrorism is casting a shadow over Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Quetta, and other major cities, as the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan(TTP) and other terrorist groups are suspected to be planning attacks. Stringent security measures have been implemented in response.
As per details, over 17 terrorists from four different groups have allegedly been tasked with carrying out acts of terrorism in the country’s key urban centers. Law enforcement agencies and police have been directed to intensify security in light of this information.
According to a “Special and Specific Information Report” sent by RPO Rawalpindi Additional IG Syed Khurram Ali, CPO Rawalpindi Khalid Hamdani, and district police chiefs across the division, there are indications that the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan’s top leadership held a meeting in Kabul. Plans for terrorist activities in January, including new attacks in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and KPK, have been outlined. Potentially affected districts include DI Khan, Tank, Quetta, Chaman, Pishan, and other areas. Funding for these activities has reportedly been acquired from Tehreek-e-Taliban Afghanistan, with around 15 suicide bombers ready for deployment.
The report further reveals that a group of 10 to 12 militants, armed with night vision glasses, hand grenades, and rocket launchers, has been dispatched under the leadership of Commander Salman alias Siddique, currently hiding in KP. Facilitators for this group are reportedly located in Matni and Izakhel.
Another group of terrorists is said to be present in Peshawar’s Hasan Khel area, with reports suggesting their presence in Mianwali and Attock districts of Punjab, as well as DG Khan in the border areas of Peshawar and KP.
Security agencies have been alerted about the Dawood Batani group, affiliated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban and active in DI Khan, planning to target law enforcement agencies and their officers and employees in Punjab’s border districts. Two commanders, Mashal and Ahmed Baloch, have been assigned for this purpose.
In a separate report, it is indicated that Baloch sub-nationalists are planning to target their own community, police, and law enforcement agencies in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. A meeting in Afghanistan led to the assignment of targets to five fighters.
Furthermore, it has been reported that the Baloch sub-nationalist group (BSNS) has initiated a propaganda campaign against state institutions with the alleged support of intelligence agencies from enemy countries, particularly India.
RPO Rawalpindi Additional IG Syed Khurram Ali, in response to threat alerts, has informed CPO Rawalpindi Syed Khalid Hamdani and DPOs in Attock, Chakwal, and Jhelum that foolproof security arrangements have been implemented to prevent any untoward situation. Security will be on high alert throughout the division, including Rawalpindi, with increased measures not only around important and sensitive installations but also at entry and exit points of cities and districts.
