Singer Haroon Shahid who first got fame through his first appearance as an actor in his debut movie Verna featuring Mahira Khan has recently spilled the beans on why the movie did not do well at the box office.
In his recent interview, the Khaas actor opened up about his first film Verna which was a flop, despite being a huge project it was a flop. “My first film was big but it didn’t do well,” the actor said.
“Do you have any work which didn’t accomplish well despite being big? Well, it was my first project and I feel that it did not do well, in terms of number, I feel that probably people said that I didn’t know acting, I would take their opinion with respect, why should I blame anyone (slightly sarcastic),” he shared. Talking about Verna’s failure, he said, “But its failure didn’t affect me, look at me, I am doing good projects.”

Released in 2017, the movie was much hyped due to the presence of Mahira Khan and the direction of Shoaib Mansoor but from the opening weekend itself, the movie failed to live up to the expectations of the audiences and the industry had from it and didn’t really get any appreciation.
Similarly, even on the international front, Verna has not been able to collect much money. Just for comparison, Shoaib Mansoor’s directorial debut ‘Khuda Kay Liayay’ which was released in 2007 had made about 8 cores domestically while his second film ‘Bol’ released in 2011 made 12 crores domestically with a worldwide gross of about 17 crores. It was expected that Verna would cross 15 crores domestically and the worldwide gross would cross 20 crores given Mahira Khan’s rise to stardom over the years.
