The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to convene today (Tuesday) in Islamabad as the Meteorological Office has indicated favorable conditions for sighting the Shawwal crescent this evening. The new moon was born last night at 11:21 pm, making it approximately 19 to 20 hours old.
Chairman of the Ruet committee, Maulana Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad, will lead the meeting at the Kohsar Complex to determine the sighting of the moon, marking the onset of Eid 2024.
The sighting of the Shawwal moon will signify the conclusion of the Holy Month of Ramadan and the commencement of Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations. Additionally, other zonal committees will gather today to collect testimonies for the moon sighting.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has stated that the crescent may be visible for approximately 50 minutes after sunset. While southern areas are expected to have clear skies, slightly cloudy conditions are anticipated in the north.
Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Wednesday (April 10) if the moon is sighted today; otherwise, it will be observed on Thursday (April 11).
It is worth mentioning that the Pakistani government has already declared Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, with offices operating five days a week observing three public holidays from April 10 to 12, and those operating six days a week observing four public holidays from April 10 to 13.
