ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has said as the overseas Pakistanis were an asset of Pakistan, so facilitating them to send their remittances back to the country had been the priority of the government.
The prime minister was chairing a meeting to consider different steps over the enhancement of remittances and the country’s fiscal reserves, PM Office Media Wing in a press statement said.
The meeting was attended by advisors to PM Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Shahzad Akbar and Dr. Ishrat Hussain, State Bank of Pakistan Governor Reza Baqir, secretary finance division, Federal Board of Revenue chairman and other high officials.
On this occasion, PM Imran expressed his satisfaction over a visible increase in the volume of remittances sent by overseas Pakistanis during the month of July.
The prime minister also directed the ministry of finance, FBR, and SBP governor to suggest further measures for enhancement of remittances so that overseas Pakistanis were further encouraged to play their role in the economic stability of the country.
The meeting considered different suggestions and measures for increasing the remittances and the country’s financial reserves.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired a meeting over the issues pertaining to the power sector.
According to a brief press release of PM Office media wing, the meeting discussed issues related to the power sector and the roadmap of reforming it.
The Prime Minister said that the power sector was affecting the economic growth of the country and immediate overhauling and reform process was essential to lesson the existing burden on the consumers.
The Prime Minister appreciated the progress in mutually agreed changes to the IPP contracts stating that rationalization of cost will help in reducing circular debt.

He also instructed Minister for Power, Omar Ayub to apprise the public about the major milestone achieved in negotiations with IPPs and its potential benefits for the consumers including domestic and commercial consumers.
