Heavy rainfall lashed various parts of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Wednesday, inundating streets and causing significant urban flooding.
As per media reports, Bokra recorded the highest rainfall at 66 millimeters, while areas like Blue Area, Bari Imam, Bhara Kahu, Zero Point, and Faizabad were hit by intense downpours.
The persistent rain forced authorities to declare an emergency in Rawalpindi, as flooding in low-lying areas left vehicles and motorcycles stranded in deep water.
According to the Managing Director of WASA, more than 80 millimeters of rainfall have been recorded in the twin cities so far, but the water flow in Nullah Lai remains under control.
The Meteorological Department has forecast that the rain will likely continue intermittently throughout the day. In its broader weather update, the department predicted:
Partly cloudy weather with chances of rain in the southern districts of Punjab, while hot and humid conditions are expected to persist in other parts of the province, including Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, and Sargodha.
Rain is expected in several areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Karak, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Mohmand, Khyber, Waziristan, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Hangu, and Kurram.
