In Islamabad’s suburban area of Saidpur, two vehicles were swept away in a rainwater drain due to torrential rainfall and strong water currents.
According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds is expected in Islamabad, Murree, Rawalpindi, and most other parts of the country until July 25.
A spokesperson for the district administration stated that once the rain subsides, illegal constructions around the drain will be demolished. Meanwhile, sanitation teams are working to drain stagnant water from affected areas.
The administration further mentioned that the encroachments were a major reason behind the water accumulation, and a continuous crackdown against illegal structures is underway.
Similar weather conditions are expected in the Potohar region, Gilgit-Baltistan, northeastern Balochistan, and parts of Sindh.
Experts have also issued warnings of potential landslides and flash floods in vulnerable areas.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast intense rain and windstorms in the coming days, warning of possible urban flooding and landslides.
Citizens have been advised to take safety precautions as weather severity may increase until July 25.
