ISLAMABAD: A five-member bench of judges headed by the Chief Justice will re-hear the presidential reference in the Supreme Court today for the interpretation of Article 63A of the Constitution.
According to details, Attorney General of Pakistan Khalid Jawed Khan had completed his arguments for the hearing of the presidential reference three days ago while the lawyers of the accused political parties also put their case before the Supreme Court.
Four days ago, senior Supreme Court judge Justice Muneeb Akhtar remarked that the legislators were bound to follow the policy of the political party to which they belonged during the National Assembly session.
Notices were also issued to PTI lawyer Ali Zafar, PPP lawyer Farooq H Naik, PML-N lawyer Makhdoom Ali Khan and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) lawyer Kamran Murtaza besides Advocate General.
The Supreme Court Bar and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) had submitted written replies on March 24 on the reference filed in the Supreme Court to stop horse-trading.
In its written reply to the Supreme Court, the Supreme Court bar said that it was the individual right of a member of the National Assembly to vote or not to vote in a no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister. Article 95 does not recognize the right of a political party to vote.
