A notification claiming the federal government has announced five-day holiday on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha tuned out to be fake.
The notification was forged using a genuine cabinet division press statement. It wrongfully mentioned that the government has announced public holiday on the occasions of Eid-ul-Azha.
All public offices will remain closed from Tuesday, June 27, till Saturday, July 1, 2023, said the fake notification. Many media outlets also fell for the fake notification and spread confusion among citizens.
It must be mentioned that Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has sighted the crescent for the Islamic month of Zil-Hajj 1444 AH.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meeting chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad met in Karachi on Monday sight the moon for Zil-Hajj.
The crescent was sighted and the committee announced that Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated in Pakistan on June 29, 2023.
The Zonal and district Ruet-e-Hilal committees meetings took place simultaneously at their respective headquarters in various cities.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department had predicted the new moon would be sighted on June 18, suggesting that the first of the Islamic month would likely be observed on June 20.
On June 18, the Zilhaj moon was sighted in Saudi Arabia and Eid-ul-Azha will fall on June 28 in the kingdom.
