ISLAMABAD: Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh on Wednesday slammed the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) during the National Assembly session.
While addressing the National Assembly, Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh said that the PML-N during its previous tenure spent Rs.23,00 billion which was more than the country’s income at the time.
Hafeez Shaikh further said that the country was on the verge of default due to current account deficit and other economic indicators. He added that the country’s foreign exchange savings saw a massive fall due to the wrong economic policies that were implemented by the PML-N.
Shaikh lamented when the incumbent government came into power, the country was facing debts of Rs.30000 billion already.
He added that the government was working to bring reforms in the country’s tax collection mechanism. In order to protect the country from being blacklisted, the government had to get a bailout package from the IMF, Hafeez added.
According to the adviser, the economy of the country is improving. The IMF has also validated that Pakistan has achieved all of its tasks, he added.
Earlier today, the Federal Minister for Planning Asad Umar upon being asked about the replacement of Finance Adviser Hafeez Shaikh rejected the news calling it a rumour.
Asad Umar said Hafeez Shaikh will continue as an adviser for finance. Fake news continues to float in Islamabad, he said.
