Setting a new record, the Grand Mosque welcomed over 4.2 million worshipers on Wednesday night, according to Al-Ekhbariya.
The faithful sought Laylat Al-Qadr, also known as the Night of Power, which is celebrated as one of the most sacred nights in Islam—described in the Qur’an as being better than a thousand months.
It is worth mentioning that millions of Muslims worldwide gathered at the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah for the 27th night of Ramadan, engaging in Taraweeh and Tahajjud prayers on this deeply spiritual occasion.
Laylat Al-Qadr falls within the last ten days of Ramadan, though its exact date is unknown. It is widely believed to occur on the 27th night, and Muslims are encouraged to search for its blessings during the odd-numbered nights of these final ten days.
To manage the massive influx of pilgrims, operational plans ensured the Mataf (the area for circumambulation) accommodated up to 107,000 individuals per hour, facilitating smooth movement within the Grand Mosque.
Authorities further equipped the mosque with 428 escalators, 28 elevators, a modern sound system featuring 1,300 speakers, and cooling systems with a capacity of 90,000 tons.
