The federal government on Monday withdrew a ban on issuing passports to Pakistani nationals seeking asylum abroad.
This was announced by Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar during a high-level meeting he chaired to explore policies for the wellbeing of Pakistanis living abroad.
The director general of immigration and passports, the interior secretary, the foreign secretary, and top officers from the foreign ministry were present at the meeting.
The federal government resolved earlier in June not to grant passports to Pakistanis residing abroad with the assistance of refuge.
In this regard, a notification has been released by the Ministry of Interior, instructing the Directorate General of Immigration and Passport to refrain from providing travel permits to citizens of Pakistan who have applied for asylum abroad due to political or other reasons.
The ministry went on to say that these Pakistanis living abroad who have already received passports will have them revoked by the directorate.
The decision aims at ensuring the security of the country.
