ISLAMABAD: The federal government is likely to increase the prices of petroleum products across the country by up to Rs 9 from February 1.
According to sources, prices of petroleum products are likely to rise. Prime Minister Imran Khan will decide the prices. The authority has proposed an increase of Rs 5.50 per liter in petrol and Rs 9 per liter in high-speed diesel (HSD).
It may be recalled that the federal government had on January 15 increased the price of petrol by Rs 3 a paise, after which the new price of petrol became Rs 147.83 paise per liter. According to the notification of an increase in petroleum products, the price of light diesel was increased by Rs3.33 while the price of high-speed diesel was increased by Rs3.
Earlier, Finance Minister Shaukat Tareen had announced that five important steps would have to be taken, including an increase of Rs 4 per month in the petroleum levy.
