The National Highway Authority (NHA) is planning to launch a helicopter service to assist in the rescue of accident victims on motorways. This new initiative will complement the existing 1122 emergency helpline.
The minister responsible for these initiatives has instructed the NHA to develop both short-term and long-term strategies to enhance road safety.
On Monday, Federal Minister for Communication Abdul Aleem Khan stressed the importance of taking precautionary measures to reduce accidents on motorways and ensuring comprehensive arrangements for effective rescue services for accident victims. He has also called for the NHA to create a five-year action plan and execute feasible road construction projects while ensuring the judicious use of government funds.
Moreover, the NHA has been tasked with formulating the National Transport Policy. Minister Abdul Aleem Khan also directed that video surveillance of trucks on highways be implemented, alongside enforcing axle load regulations on GT roads in other cities.
He stressed that the freight and logistics policy must be strictly adhered to, and any oversight or negligence will not be tolerated, necessitating immediate corrective action.
