The Directorate General of Customs Valuation in Karachi has announced a major reduction in customs duties on the import of used computers, laptops, printers, and related accessories. The initiative is intended to “provide relief to the common man” and support ongoing digitization efforts.
A consultative meeting was convened with key stakeholders, including importers, to review and assess the updated valuation rates. During the discussions, stakeholders highlighted a decline in the prices of older models and generations of electronic goods, prompting the authorities to revise customs values accordingly.
The updated directive, identified as Ruling No. 2000 of 2025, was issued on Friday. It seeks to facilitate the importation process for traders and importers by reflecting current market realities. The ruling applies universally to used electronic products from all countries of origin, acknowledging the observed decrease in their market value.
This revision marks the first adjustment in over a year since the issuance of the previous customs valuation ruling.
According to the latest directive, a comprehensive analysis of import data, prevailing market trends, and variations in pricing informed the decision to revise customs values under Sections 25 and 25A of the Customs Act, 1969.
