Govt likely to announce four Eidul Adha 2025 holidays

Pakistan is set to celebrate Eidul Adha on Saturday, June 7, 2025. As per the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announcement, the first day of Zil Hajj will fall on Thursday, May 29, 2025, while Eid ul Adha will be observed on June 7.

In Pakistan, four public holidays are expected in connection with the occasion. The federal government is likely to announce Eid holidays from Friday, June 6, to Monday, June 9; however, the official notification is expected to be issued next week.

Eidul Adha, one of the two major Islamic festivals alongside Eid al-Fitr, is observed on the 10th of Dhu al-Hijjah—the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar. The celebrations traditionally extend over four days, including the three subsequent Tashreeq days.

Also known as “Greater Eid” or Eid II, Eidul Adha is marked by the performance of the Eid prayer in the morning, followed by the ritual sacrifice, or qurbani (udhiyah), of sheep or other livestock.

This practice commemorates the Islamic tradition that honors Prophet Abraham’s (PBUH) willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command. Depending on the narrative, either Ishmael or Isaac is referred to as “The Sacrifice of God.”

For those undertaking Hajj, Eidul Adha holds particular significance. Pilgrims perform rituals such as the tawaf and saee, along with the symbolic stoning of the devil on Eid day and the following days, as part of their spiritual journey.
