The government on Monday hiked prices of petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) for the next fortnight until April 30th.
The new rates saw petrol increase by Rs4.53 per liter, reaching Rs293.94, while HSD rose by Rs8.14 per liter to Rs290.38.
These adjustments, disclosed by the finance ministry, were determined by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority, aligning with shifts in global market prices.

Petrol, predominantly utilized in private vehicles, rickshaws, and two-wheelers, significantly impacts the budgets of middle and lower-middle-class households. Conversely, HSD, widely employed in heavy transport vehicles, trains, and agricultural machinery such as trucks, buses, tractors, tube wells, and threshers, notably affects the prices of essential commodities like vegetables.
It is worth mentioning that the government opted not to announce alterations for kerosene and light diesel oil (LDO). Kerosene, often subject to misuse through adulteration with petrol, serves remote lighting needs, while LDO finds application in flour mills and certain power plants.
