ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has failed to conduct an investigation and audit into the illegal assets of the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) officers.
According to sources, the subsidiary organization has been asked to submit details of these people and the data will be reviewed after which they will be asked about their sources of income.
However, the company refused to submit any details of their employees while the FBR remained silent on the issue, sources added. Several IESCO officials are also directed to provide details of cognizance taken over corruption practices committed through defective meters and electricity theft.
Sources further said the company staff at the subdivision office levels were involved in misguiding consumers regarding the availability of material.
Earlier, the chief executive officer and the direct operation of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) had been arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on the charges of corruption, inefficiency and abuse of power.
On the direction of the Federal Ministry of Water and Power, the director had been removed from the post of the Lesco CEO.
The recent action against both senior officials was taken due to their failure in curbing corrupt practices, inefficiency and mismanagement in the affairs of the distribution company.
Prime Minister Imran Khan, FBR and Chairman NAB should take immediate notice and order to investigate the assets of the officers and personnel posted in the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) for a long time.
