ISLAMABAD: Rejecting the 40 percent increase in salaries of government employees approved by the federal cabinet on Tuesday, the salaried class termed the increase highly disproportionate according to the galloping ratio of inflation.
The government employees said that they pinned high hopes with the government, however, all their hopes fizzled out. They said that if the government could not increase salaries, then it should at least control price hike. They rejected a 40% increase in salaries and announced countrywide protests from Wednesday.
It is worth mentioning here, the federal cabinet approved an increase in the salaries of government employees, from grades one to 16, while provincial officers will not benefit from the move.
The decision came during a federal cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday, where views were exchanged on the country’s economic and political situation.
According to sources, Federal Minister for Defence Pervez Khattak briefed the federal cabinet about the salaries of government employees. Moreover, a report on organizations’ CEOs and heads was also presented during the meeting.
Sources said that the cabinet has directed the provinces to decide for themselves on the issue of increasing the salaries of employees.
