ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved an Rs1 billion technical supplementary grant to launch advertising campaigns to raise awareness among people amid a surge in COVID-19 cases across the country.
According to a statement issued by ECC on Friday, the ECC meeting, chaired by Finance and Revenue Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, considered and approved a summary moved by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MOIB) regarding an Rs1 billion TSG to launch an advertising campaign to sensitise masses on the third wave of Covid-19.
Earlier the day, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) said that Pakistan recorded “the highest daily vaccination rate” as more than 41,000 people have inoculated against the novel coronavirus the other day.
Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives and NCOC head Asad Umar urged people aged 70 and above to get themselves registered for the vaccination.
The mass vaccination centers have been established in 15 cities. As the country witnesses the third wave of the deadly virus, provincial governments have issued new coronavirus rules. Several cities have been placed under lockdown to curb the spread of the virus.
The coronavirus positivity ratio shot on Friday past 10% and the death toll crossed 14,000 as the third wave of the virus grips the country.
The statistics by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) showed the novel coronavirus has claimed 63 more lives and 3,946 fresh infections were reported in the past day. It said that 38,858 tests were carries in the last 24 hours, out of which 3,946 returned positive, taking the national positivity ratio to 10.15%.
