CALIFORNIA: Search-engine giant Google has announced to extend its work from home policy till September 2021.
In an email to employees, the company’s Chief Executive Officer Sundar Pichai said that Google had also been testing a ‘flexible workweek’ for its employees once the company ascertains that it is safe to work from the office again.
According to the new plan, workers will be going to Google’s office thrice a week, while they will work from home for the remaining days. “We are testing a hypothesis that a flexible work model will lead to greater productivity, collaboration, and well-being,” Pichai wrote.
“No company at our scale has ever created a fully hybrid workforce model — though a few are starting to test it — so it will be interesting to try,” Pichai added. The tech giant is in the process of laying out a series of changes that will affect how its staff and people at other tech companies will work after the pandemic.
When the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, Google was one of the world’s first companies that decided to send its employees to work from home. Facebook, Twitter, and Square are among the companies to announce they would permanently extend their current fully-remote work policies.
Earlier, the technology giant had said that employees would return to work in January 2021, but considering the situation, the date was pushed back to July 2021.
