LONDON: The total number of fatalities in the world from the novel coronavirus has climbed over 170,470 today as the globe continues to tackle the virus.
Since the novel coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan, there are 2,482,158 confirmed virus cases around the globe. Of these cases, at least 652,170 are now considered recovered.
The United States continues to bear the brunt of the coronavirus outbreak as almost 42,517 people died in the country alone. The virus killed at least 1,939 in a 24-hour period.
Italy, which recorded its first coronavirus death at the end of February, has 24,114 fatalities, with 454 people succumbing to the disease in the last 24 hours. Spain has recorded 20,852 fatalities with 399 in a single day and 200,210 infections.
China, excluding Hong Kong and Macau, has to date declared 4,632 deaths and 82,758 cases, with 77,123 recoveries. France has reported 642 deaths in a single day, taking the tally to 20,265 deaths and 155,383 cases.
The United Kingdom has reported 449 deaths during the last 24 hours, 16,509 fatalities and 152,000 infections. Meanwhile, the death toll is 5,209 in Iran as a confirmed number of cases is almost 83,505.
India reported 18,658 cases of the coronavirus COVID-19 as with over 3,273 recoveries and 592 fatalities. The COVID-19 has affected 3,300 people and claimed 58 lives in South Africa.
