KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Amir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has said that giving license to K-Electric till 2044 is condemnable, this move is equivalent to open hostility towards Karachi.
According to the details, the JI chairman expressed his anger at the KE officials while reacting to the issuance of a license to Karachi Electric for the next 20 years.
In his statement, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said that K-Electric is robbing the people of Karachi by failing to provide uninterrupted and affordable electricity. “The caretaker government should refrain from long-term decisions,” he said.
The head of Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi said that giving license to K Electric till 2044 is reprehensible and open hostility to Karachi while KENTDC is a Rs 62 billion insolvent institution.
Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said that K Electric owes Rs 172 billion to the Sui Southern Gas Company, while the people of Karachi also owe Rs 52 billion to companies like K Electric.
It should be noted that earlier a new electricity distribution license was issued to K Electric, an electricity distribution company in the city of Quaid, under which K Electric will be able to operate until 2044.
Sources in this regard claimed yesterday that the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) issued a license for 20 years while the interim license period of 6 months was completed yesterday.
