The Consulate General of Germany in Karachi has abruptly suspended all consular services for non-European Union (EU) citizens, including those with confirmed visa appointments.
In a statement posted on social media and the consulate’s official website, the mission announced that the suspension takes immediate effect and will continue until further notice. “All confirmed visa appointments for non-EU citizens are cancelled and will not be rescheduled,” it said, advising applicants to re-register through the online appointment system once services resume. No timeline has been given for the restoration of services.
The consulate pledged to issue updates as the situation develops and thanked the public for their understanding during the disruption.
Meanwhile, the German Embassy in Islamabad has not announced any similar suspension of services.
This move comes amid recent shifts in visa policies by Western countries. Earlier this month, Sweden resumed issuing short-stay visas in Islamabad. In June, U.S. consulates in Karachi and Lahore updated their requirements for non-immigrant F, M, and J visa applicants, requiring them to make their social media profiles public for background checks.
