Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir will be decorated with Field Marshal badges today in a special ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr, Islamabad.
The event is scheduled for 5:00 pm and will be attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, federal ministers, and top civil and military officials. A day earlier, the government approved his promotion to Field Marshal in recognition of his strategic leadership during Operation Bunyānum Marsoos.
He is the first Pakistani four-star general to be awarded the rank of field marshal by an elected government.
General Munir becomes the second officer in Pakistan’s history to receive the rank, after Field Marshal Ayub Khan in 1959.
Earlier today, General Asim Munir received a special guard of honour at the GHQ for his services.
He laid a floral wreath and offered Fateha at the Martyrs’ Monument.
According to ISPR, he paid tribute to the martyrs who laid down their lives for the country.
The Field Marshal paid rich tribute to the martyrs, saying the brave Pakistani nation and armed forces stood like a steel wall against India’s unprovoked, cowardly, and illegal aggression.
“This honour is especially dedicated to the martyrs who stood firm in the face of hostility against Pakistan,” he added, according to the ISPR.
