A freight train derailed near Okara Cantt railway station on Saturday, causing its bogies to detach from the train and fall onto GT Road.
The accident occurred suddenly, blocking the railway track and suspending train operations. Upon receiving the information, railway authorities and police reached the scene and began rescue operations.
Local residents also gathered at the site and assisted railway officials and police. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported so far. According to railway officials, the derailed train was traveling from Lahore to Karachi. Due to the accident, the track was blocked, and railway traffic was suspended.
Authorities stated that repair work would be completed soon, after which the track would be restored, and train operations would resume.
It is worth mentioning that railway accidents in Pakistan are becoming increasingly common, with possible causes including technical faults and administrative negligence. Due to this growing carelessness, passengers are increasingly avoiding rail travel.
Railway officials have stated that railway tracks across the country are in poor condition and urgently require repairs and replacement. They further emphasized that a comprehensive survey should be conducted to ensure the safety of rail travel and prevent such accidents in the future.
