DUBAI: A local court in Dubai has imposed a two-year prison sentence on four Pakistani men, along with a fine of Dh1 million, for their involvement in the kidnapping and robbery of two Indian nationals.
According to reports from Khaleej Times, the defendants, who posed as police officers, abducted and robbed the two Indian men on March 29 within the jurisdiction of the Al Rafaa Police Station in Dubai.
Court documents reveal that a Pakistani driver, who was acquainted with the victims, conspired with three other Pakistanis and an individual who remains at large to carry out the crime after discovering that the victims were in possession of a substantial sum of money.
While transporting the victims to Dubai’s Gold Souk, the driver discreetly informed his accomplices of the victims’ whereabouts. Two of the perpetrators, masquerading as police officers, intercepted the victims and compelled them into separate vehicles.
The gang made off with Dh1 million, two mobile phones, and two wallets before releasing the victims.
Following the filing of a complaint, law enforcement launched an investigation that led to the apprehension of the five suspects.
One of the individuals was identified as the mastermind behind the scheme, while two others were instrumental in impersonating law enforcement and executing the robbery.
However, the court acquitted the fifth suspect due to insufficient evidence and the corroborative testimonies of the other defendants, which supported his claim of non-involvement.
