ISLAMABAD: At least four people were killed and 24 passengers were critically injured in different road accidents in the wee hours of Monday.
According to rescues sources, a passenger bus suddenly overturned after it collided into a tractor-trolley at Satiana Road near Tandlianwala on early Monday morning. As a result, 20 passengers sustained severe injuries.
Soon after the incident, rescue 1122 reached the scene and shifted the injured to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Tandlianwala.
Police said the bus was already exceeding the safe speed limits, and the failure of brakes made the situation even worse.
Separately, at least four people were killed while four others including three children sustained serious injuries when a speeding car overturned in Sheikhupura.
Rescue workers shifted the bodies and injured people to a nearby hospital for autopsies and treatment respectively. The cause of the accident was over speeding, rescue officials said.
According to World Health Organisation data, nearly 1.2 million people died whereas 20 to 50 million people suffered non-fatal injuries in road accidents every year in the world.
Speeding is one of the most common causes of road mishaps however; many precious lives could be saved if people follow traffic rules.
