KARACHI: A suspect was arrested in an injured condition after an exchange of fire with police outside a bungalow near Karachi’s Tariq Road, a police official said on Friday.
The suspect, alleged leader of an inter-provincial gang of Afghan dacoits, entered into a bungalow along with four dacoits near the Tariq Road area. Upon receiving information, a police team rushed to the scene immediately and surrounded the alleged criminals.
The dacoits allegedly opened fire on the police team, to which the police also retaliated, injuring one of the suspects. However, the other suspects managed to escape under the cover of fire.
A police spokesperson informed that the arrested suspect, identified as Ghulam Sakhi alias Karkaray, used to bring criminals from Afghanistan besides providing them rental house, weapons and vehicle.
The police team also recovered national identity cards of Pakistan and Afghanistan from his possession. The arrested accused was involved in more than 50 dacoities, whereas, looted money and jewellery were also recovered.
