A suspected First-Person View (FPV) drone strike on Monday claimed the lives of four children and injured five others, including a woman, in the Mir Ali tehsil of North Waziristan.
According to Dawn, the strike took place in Hurmuz village and resulted in the deaths of four children from the same family.
In the aftermath of the attack, local residents staged a sit-in at Mir Ali Chowk, holding placards to protest against drone strikes. Community elders strongly condemned the incident, calling it a failure on the part of the government and expressing concern that North Waziristan was once again being targeted.
The protestors demanded the formation of an independent commission to investigate the incident and vowed to continue their sit-in until they were satisfied with the findings of the investigation.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Relief, Naik Muhammad Dawar, condemned the strike in a statement posted on social media. He stated that the blood of innocent children would not be shed in vain and described the attack as a crime against humanity. He pledged to raise the issue at every available platform and to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
The minister further assured the affected family of the government’s full support, both in seeking justice and in providing necessary assistance.
