Former Supreme Court Judge, Justice (Retired) Mushir Alam, has declined the appointment as an ad-hoc judge in a letter to the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) on Tuesday. Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa had previously considered appointing retired judges to address the backlog of 54,000 pending cases.
In a JCP meeting on Friday, chaired by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, the commission will review the potential appointment of retired justices Mushir Alam, Maqbool Baqar, Mazhar Alam Miankhel, and Sardar Tariq Masood.
Expressing his gratitude, Justice Alam wrote, “God has honored me beyond my position…I am thankful to the Judicial Commission for the honor of being reappointed as an ad-hoc judge.”
Justice Alam cited his disappointment with a social media campaign that emerged after his nomination as a significant reason for his decision. “The campaign on social media after the nomination of ad-hoc judges has been deeply discouraging,” his letter read. “In the current circumstances, I regret that I am unable to serve as an ad-hoc judge,” he conveyed.
