ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan cricketer Naushad Ali, who played six Test matches, passed away in Islamabad on Sunday aged 79.
His funeral prayers will be offered at the H-11 graveyard. The Pakistan Cricket Board has expressed its grief and sorrow over the passing of former Test cricketer Naushad Ali.
Mr Naushad Ali, wicketkeeper-batter, featured in six Test matches – all against New Zealand in 1965. He had served the PCB as the manager of the Pakistan Men’s team and had also served as a match referee.
In a message, PCB Management Committee Chairman Mr Zaka Ashraf said: “On behalf of the PCB, I want to express my deepest condolences on the sad demise of Mr Naushad Ali.”
“We share the grief of his friends and family and extend our deepest sympathies,” he added.
Naushad Ali Rizvi was born on 1 October 1943 in Gwalior, present-day India. He retired as a colonel in Pakistan Army.
He played in six Tests in 1965 as Pakistan’s wicket-keeper and opening batsman. He played first-class cricket in Pakistan from 1960 to 1979, hitting nine centuries. He has also been a match referee and administrator.
