We have always witnessed Bollywood remaking Hollywood films but foreign filmmakers making movies that are actually the remakes of Indian films is something rare but true.

From 3 Idiots to Drishyam, here is a list of foreign movies that are remakes of Indian films:

3 Idiots

3 Idiots is a coming-of-age drama that was a huge 2009 hit movie featuring Aamir Khan, R Madhavan, and Sharman Joshi.

Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the critical and commercial success of the movie motivated Mexican filmmaker Carlos Bolado to come up with his own version which was titled ‘3 Idiotas’.

3 Idiots is streaming on Amazon Prime.

A Wednesday!

The critically acclaimed film featuring Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher was officially remade in 2013 by Sri Lankan filmmaker Chandran Rutnam as ‘A Common Man’.

The Sri Lankan version featured Oscar-winning actor Ben Kingsley and also won several accolades.

The film is streaming on Netflix.

Parinda

Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s crime thriller was remade in Hollywood as ‘Broken Horses’.

The original movie told the tale of two orphaned brothers featuring Jackie Shroff, Anil Kapoor, and Madhuri Dixit.

The movie was also selected as India’s official movie for the Academy Award in the Best Foreign Language Film category.

The movie is streaming on Amazon Prime Video and YouTube.

Drishyam

We all have not gotten over the edge-of-the-seat thriller ‘Drishyam’, a 2013 film that was the first Indian movie to be remade in Mainland China as ‘Sheep Without a Shepherd’.

The crime-thriller franchise is also set to become the first Indian film to be remade in Korean with Parasite actor Song Kang-Ho essaying the lead role, which was essayed by Ajay Devgn in the Hindi version.

The film is neither streaming on Netflix or Amazon Prime Video. You can, however, watch the movie on Disney+ Hotstar.
