ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister of Iran, Dr. Javad Zarif telephoned Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi today (Thursday) and discuss coronavirus situation.
According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office, matters pertaining to recent locust attack, coronavirus, and Afghan peace process were discussed during the telephonic conversation.
FM Qureshi offered condolences over the loss of precious lives in Iran due to coronavirus. He also expressed hope that Iran would achieve success against the pandemic.
“The two foreign ministers agreed on the need for collective endeavors to effectively address the recent locust attack in the region,” the statement added.
Commenting on the Afghan Peace process, FM Qureshi reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast support for peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan.
FM Qureshi also thanked Iranian leadership for a principled position on the rights of the Kashmiri people. He also highlighted enhanced difficulties in occupied Kashmir due to communications restrictions and lack of unfettered access to medical and other supplies to address coronavirus.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi also highlighted the demonization of Muslims in India in the context of coronavirus, emphasizing that it should be rejected by the world community.
Earlier on March 4, Pakistan and Iran had agreed on joint efforts to cope with the threat of novel coronavirus.
